My Favorite Fabric Haunts
One of the top questions I get in my inbox each week is, “Where do you purchase all that fabric for those crazy costumes?” Most of the time, I shop locally at high end and discount shops around Atlanta. Sometimes though, I need to scour the world (of the web, anyways) to get the right fabric for my project.
This certainly isn’t an end-all list of fabric and supply shops online, just the ones I frequent and can speak well of their customer service, quality and price.

WTH Japan!
I spend a lot of time writing for every website but my own. I’m not sure what I want to do with this page, other than keep it a hub for my professional work and some of my more interesting photos. If you’re in the mood to read what I write, I started a new segment on Geeks Are Sexy exploring the strange and unusual side of Japan. Okay, that’s pretty much *all* of Japan, but still.
Last week I talked about the Curse of Colonel Sanders. Today I’m exploring sleep aids used on subway commutes.
I might also start posting photos of food here. I like to eat. A lot.
Total Recall Teaser Trailer
Waiting for the next summer blockbuster to come around has never been more painful! Now movie companies are tantalizing us with teaser trailers. Yep. Now we get preview clips for a preview for the film.
I have to say, the upcoming Total Recall remake looks pretty spectacular. Can’t wait for the “world premiere trailer” to launch on Sunday.

In Front of the Lens: My Day As a Cosplay Model (Part 1)
Many of my colleagues are fascinated by my hobby known as cosplay. It is not just about running around trade shows in ostentatious get ups. A lot of my time is spent in front of the camera doing photo shoots, to document my work and just have something cool to show the world. Both cosplay and non-cosplay friends alike have asked me to do a write up on what goes into the photo shoot process. In this 3-part series, I’ll take you through what my typical day as a “cosplay model.”
Someone Interviewed Me?!

Star Wars Concept Artist Ralph McQuarrie Passes Away

The man responsible for the look behind the original Star Wars films passed away on Saturday. Ralph McQuarrie, who was born in 1929, was a visionary and created the designs for many of the notable characters in the Star Wars universe; including Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and the original concept for the female protagonist of the film, Starkiller. (Yes folks, Lucas initially intended for Luke to be a girl, and Han a nondescript green alien!). In addition to Star Wars, Ralph McQuarrie worked on the original Battlestar Galactica, Indiana Jones, E.T., and Cocoon, which earned him an Academy Award for Visual Effects.
Ralph MQuarrie passed away at his home in Los Angeles, California at the age of 82.
McQuarrie’s work has been collected in The Illustrated Star Wars Universe and The Art of Ralph McQuarrie. Some of his more notable work is available online at The Art of Ralph McQuarrie website.
